Wow, your story is truly amazing & so brave to share, Melissa. I am grateful for you & all that you do for this group & the profession of nursing. We’re lucky you stuck it out & that your experiences led to the creation of this wonderful community!

I am so grateful for your group. I read all the posts on interviews and it helped me land my first interview and job of my dreams?

Thank You! I wouldn’t have been able to get this offer without all the info and help from this group so I’m forever grateful!

I just wanted to let you know the interview went great!  It helped to know about Jean Watson theory , 4C’s and their magnet status.  First question they asked was what do you know about our hospital and why I want to work there.  Thanks again for sharing all your knowledge!  It made me feel prepared.

After a few months of actively applying for a job, I received an offer from a Northern CA hospital in their NICU unit! Feel very excited to start a new chapter in life as well as bleed to have landed a job after graduation. Thankful for this group for the advice and support. SD with Melissa Missy. :)

Melissa, I want to especially thank you for all your help. Since, helping me with my resume less than a month ago, I have had 4 interviews and gotten all 4 job offers, with still 3 more interviews scheduled for this week and next week. Am so grateful for this group and everyone. Instead of stressing out, I am now choosing where to go!!!!

Hi Melissa! I got a call from LPCH to interview on Monday!  They are mostly surgical and med/hem/onc overflow. I was wondering if you or the group had any advice for me since I currently have one year acute experience as an adult med/surg-tele nurse. Also, thank you for all your help with my resume and introducing me to jobscan. I think that definitely helped me land this interview.
Update ~ I got the job offer from Lucile Packard!

I was once a new grad from a foreign country and worked myself to be in my position. I know how hard it is to be in their shoes. And i always am willing to train them. I have given so many “first” nursing badge and it is priceless to see their faces. I will cont to do that if i have the chance to. The nurses i trained are all now in acute hospital and im still in touch with them and became friends with them after 4-5years

Your page is definitely very helpful, thank you so much. Have a nice day to you too!

Hey Melissa!! I just received not one but TWO interview invites to 2 different new grad programs. Finally!!!

Hi Melissa, Thank you for this  group that has been extremely helpful to me. I just want to share my story and encourage other fellow new grads who are still searching for their dream job to be patient and positive. I graduated in May 2016 with a BSN and got license in July. With no connection, I had no luck searching for job in Ca. I had two hospital interviews and nothing back. I decided that I couldn’t be picky and took a job at a Rehabilitation facility where I have 17-20 patients to care for. I still kept searching for acute care job. After two month now, I got an offer as a new grad OB nurse at a large hospital. This is like an miracle to me but I know that I couldn’t do it without all the advices from this group the portfolio, how to dress, mock interview and daily talking to my self in front of the mirror … it’ll pay off and good luck to the rest of us! be positive, your time will come and I can’t wait to hear more happy ending story!

I’m so grateful for this page/group! I’m a new grad having graduated in May and passed my NCLEX in Late August. I just landed my first interview in Labor and Delivery yesterday and with all the great resources on this page I got a call back with a job offer 2.5 hours later! I’m still in shock and so excited! I had a portfolio for each person interviewing me, I wrote Thank You notes in advance for those I knew would be interviewing me and brought extra if needed to write some afterwards. But most importantly, my dream is to be a L&D nurse, and as one person put it “Passion shines through….they will know when you have a passion about the position you want, simply by how you talk about it.” So to all of you still looking keep pushing and be prepared – do your homework on the hospital and unit specifically, let your passion shine through! Thanks again for all your advice and make sure to look at the FILES section on RNInterview Tools Facebook Group! 💕😬

Wow! I am so thankful for all the feedback especially for the ones who shared their background 😊 It was awesome to get some insight on your experiences.

I want to give credit for my success to RN Interview Tools and everyone that shared their experiences and resources! I was able to prep prep prep and find guidance how to interview.

Especially were Melissa Missy mention on one of the post to wear a US flag pin! for VA interview. 😃

I believe that this fb page has all the tools to be successful, you just need to do the work to find the info or just ask. 🤓

I got a job! Interviewed Monday! Offered today!!  Thanks to you and the Facebook group RNInterview Tools it helped me stay positive!!!  Almost a year since graduation, didn’t get licensed in California until early 2017. Just had to be patient and the right position came along!  No weekends or holidays! Not bad for a new nurse!!!”

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your help!! I kept in mine all of the tips you’ve shared with us. I remember I started reading your page since I started nursing school and the success stories always motivated me 😀

So I got the call yesterday, I got the job – so am happy at least that’s considered acute hospital. Thank you for all you do for use new grads.

Thank you! God bless you guys for what you’re doing.

I spent hours and hours on here (Facebook Group) reading all of the tips and recommendations, and landed a job in my dream hospital! Thank you all SO much for uplifting one another on here and being so wonderful. It was important to me that I thanked you all.
If I could give you any advice it would be, Don’t give up! Be yourself in an interview and prep, prep, prep!! If you don’t get the job the first time, keep applying! Go to that 2nd and 3rd and 4th interview for that dream unit/hospital. It WILL happen, when it is the RIGHT time ❤️

Hi Melissa,

I wanted to thank you for referring me to Allen; he was so great and helped me a lot.  He went above and beyond to help me, and I will always be grateful. 🤗

I was very pleased with the outcome!  The interview was a success at a CA Residency program, and I had two job offers from different Hospitals.  I accepted an offer in L&D!

I ❤️ L&D and feel fortunate to start my career in my dream job!  Keep up the great job and my best wishes to all at RNInterview Tools who has made this possible.  Your selfless giving is helping launch the careers of many, and we will always be indebted to you.  Again, thank you for your continued support, advice, and kindness!

Best wishes,

UPDATE: I received a call today from the VA for a second interview on Friday! It came as a shock as they weren’t suppose to make calls until tomorrow! I’m reeling in excitement and emotions that I made it this far in such a competitive and intense application/interview process!

I just wanted to thank this group again because without all of the advice and information I received from all your posts I don’t think I would have done so well in that excruciating 5 stage interview!

Next step—-hopefully getting accepted into the VALOR program and start my nursing journey before I graduate next December!

Hi Melissa I have been reading your successful stories on RNinterview tools. I really appreciate what you do (as well as the other motivators) and wanted to see if you have some suggestions for me.
Please keep doing the wonderful work on RN interview tools. It’s such an inspiring page for all of us nurses. Thank you.

This group has helped me so much so I thought I would share what I have compiled for my portfolio. All of these ideas I pieced together from various posts and decided to take pictures of mine and share with anyone looking to get ideas. Just my take on things. Thank you Melissa Missy for all that you do for this community!!!

This interviewing gets a little easier and less intimidating each time.  Thank you for this group. I have learned a ton!  It’s great to see all of the success stories too!

Anyway, I would be so lost without your group and would not feel as good as I feel now about that interview if I never found this resource! Thank you for taking so much time to help so many people!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Hi Melissa, Thank you for this  group that has been extremely helpful to me. Hello fellow group members. I want to thank the admin staff and the fellow members for all the advice provided. I recently had several interviews both for inpatient positions and outpatient positions. I’m going to be doing my 2nd round interview this coming Mon, this time in person, 3 person panel for a heart and vascular outpatient ambulatory specialty clinic. I have searched this page for specifics to study for this type of interview in this specialty but can’t find any. I’m wondering if anyone can provide some insight. Thank you all for your help!

Missy I just wanted to let you know that I interviewed with a Northern CA Hospital a couple weeks after you reviewed my resume and cover letter.

I interviewed on Monday, the nurse manager called me yesterday and told me they had filled the position, 🌟but🌟 she was putting a new posting up and for me to apply and then email her.

😍 She called today and offered me that position!!!  Thank you for your help!

💥 I also did an interview prep with Allen that was very helpful!

I am so grateful for this site.

I graduated 3 years ago and almost gave up the idea of working in a hospital.  😊😊

I am so thankful for this group! I went to my first job fair on Tuesday. I was so nervous but I created my resume and cover letter using the tips y’all provided. I created a nursing portfolio and brought multiple copies with me. The first unit manager I spoke with said I should go for a peer interview right then. Even though I was nervous, I was prepared! I got through the interview and went back into the fair and networked some more. Two other unit managers also asked me to interview for them! The next day (yesterday) I got a phone call and was offered a job! I accepted! I’m so happy! I graduate today and my start date is dependent on when I take my NCLEX! There’s no way I would’ve had the confidence or would’ve been prepared without all of your tips! Thank you, thank you!!! Good luck to everyone on your successes! “Do it!” 😉

I wanted to say THANK YOU to this group and to all the moderators for their never ending support and tips. After countless of application submitted and countless of rejection letters received, I finally got in to the hospital that I always wanted to work for.  I received an offer last Thursday to be part of a Southern CA New Grad RN program. I cried like a baby because of happiness when I saw the email. It feels unreal…. I had to double check with the HR if the email was legit and it was  🙂

This group tremendously helped me on how to format my resume, my portfolio and helped me prep for my interview.

I’m so happy and excited to start this new chapter of my nursing career.

The day of my last interview, I was an emotional wreck. Straight up anxiety and panic attack. It turns out when the interview started, I  don’t know what happen, but all that went away. I felt at ease, and probably as prepared as I’ll ever be for someone who just started studying the night before. It really was all the tips I picked up from RNInterview Tools FB group. It really really helped

Hi Melissa!! I’ve been dying to tell you this but I was waiting before I got the official letter. I got hired at an awesome Northern CA Bay Area Hospital!
I went in for my interview appt at the job fair this past Saturday. I was interviewed by the manager and charge nurse. I gave my portfolio and they complemented me on how beautiful my resume and everything else was. They actually took the time to read it word for word! Then I got asked a mix of clinical and behavioral questions. I was very calm and I noticed that if I began to talk really fast because of nervousness, I was able to calm myself down! It felt so relaxed and in control!! It felt good.
During the interview the HR ppl had to knock on the door several times because we were having a good conversation that it went into the next interview time. At the end of it all, I was expecting the manager to say “we will contact you in a few days” but she said “I would love to bring you on board and think you would learn a lot here”
I got the verbal offer on the spot!! I was the first one they interviewed for that day and was honestly so shocked. There were only about 2-3 positions left and I filled one!
It just felt like all the cards were right for this one! And I almost cried when she gave me the offer lol.
Thank you! But I cannot thank you enough for all the help, support, and guidance you have given me throughout this process!! It has seriously been a life saver and I cannot imagine this job hunt without your help!!
Thank you so much and for everything you do

Thank you so much for all of your help and believing in me 😊 I will definitely reach out to you if i need some advice🙌🏽 your interview tips really helped me and the nurse managers thought it was funny when I asked what they are expecting out of a nurse at the beginning of the interview lol! I made them smile and laugh a few times throughout!

In my latest blog post on Daily Nurse, I write out great opportunities for nursing students to network while in school. Among the possibilities, I list the RNInterview Tools Facebook page! I have found it to be exceptionally helpful and packed with information. Please read and share!

http://dailynurse.com/network-now-network-often/

Melissa! I got an interview for ICU 😊 all because of you💕

Thank you so much. You have been helpful and helped me gain some of my confidence back.

I know I have said this many times… but every time I am at the verge of quitting.. .you  have been there. your posts, help everything.. I might not get the job but still its fighting for what I want!

[long post alert] I would like to share my journey with all of you since I know it may be beneficial to some. I graduated from nursing school in 2017, took the NCLEX August, and found out I was officially an RN a few days later! I had applied to many hospitals online, including where I precepted, but only received rejection emails. I finally got a phone interview, but unfortunately, I never heard back from the hospital.

One afternoon I was feeling depressed because I had gotten another rejection email. I didn’t feel like doing anything but be in bed. However, I had heard that a hospital was going to have an RN job fair a couple of days later, and I was interested in going. This event was only for experienced RNs, but there was going to be another hospital giving out information about their new graduate program. I decided I would attend to tour the hospital and obtain information about the other new grad program, even though I didn’t feel like going much.

I got up the next day and bought the supplies to put 5 portfolios together. I printed the content and also 10 copies of my resume in nice linen paper. That night, I pressed my black suit and put everything else together. I read many posts on this page for portfolio advice, watched many videos on how to present yourself at a job fair and immersed myself in positive thoughts. I was determine to make a good impression regardless if I would get a job or not. I told myself that this would be a learning experience.

The fair started at 10am and I arrived shortly after-Good thing I had ready many posts on this site that taught me how to behave professionally and create my pitch because that gave me confidence that I was doing the right thing. I shook the hand of everyone that I met and told them I was a new grad RN and that I knew this event was for experienced nurses, but I was really interested in seeing the facility and touring the Labor and Delivery unit.

After I was directed to the other hospital’s new grad information booth and talked to the representative there, I almost left the building. However, I decided I would stay and tour the Obstetrics department because I was very interested in working at that particular hospital in the future. So I asked a couple of recruiters when the tour would go on and was directed back to another recruiter who told me it would be in another hour. I told her that I didn’t mind waiting. She seemed surprised and said she would let me know when the tour would go on.

I waited for about 10 minutes with other experienced RNs who were waiting to be interviewed. The recruiter came back and asked for my resume. I had my padfolio out and easily took a copy out and gave it to her. She told me she would have me meet with the leadership of the maternity department. I thought this could be either an interview or only an information session. Either way I was excited!

So she called me back to meet with the director of nursing of perinatal services and another nurse. I really didn’t think it was an interview until she started asking me ‘interview-type’ questions, such as “tell me a time when you had communication issues on the floor”, “tell me of a time where critical events happen during your night shift”, and others. Still, this was more of a conversation, and I did not think that anything would come of it.

After we were done, I asked “may I share my portfolio with you?” and pulled out two portfolios for them to read. They seemed really impressed and the DON told me that it was apparent that I put a lot of time and effort into it. I pointed out some pages that were worthy of highlighting. At the end, I shook their hand and again thanked them for taking their time to talk to me even though I was just a new graduate RN and this event was not meant for me.

Some 4 hours later, I got a call from the recruiter and she told me that the DON and the other nurse loved me and wanted to have me in their department! She said they wanted to extend an offer to me and asked if I would be interested in working with them. They would train me in both post-partum and L&D so I could go back and forth as needed. This was the best thing I could hear since I had expressed my interest in both units to the DON. I screamed of joy and happiness that I finally had my dream job! It was such an amazing feeling.

If you are still reading this, thank you for holding on. If you are going through a rough patch, remember it will not last forever. It will pass. Things will get better for you and eventually, you will find your place at the right time. Don’t ever give up and always give it your best shot at whatever you do! You can make your dreams a reality if you truly believe in them and in yourself.

I want to thank Melissa Missy and the moderators of RNInterview Tools for creating this space where nurses from all walks of life can help and support each other. I would probably not have been as successful in my job hunt without this page. Thank you all for what you do!

I have officially signed a job offer! Thank you to everyone in this group for your help, kindness, and support! I’m an ADN just got my RN license and was able to land the first job that I interviewed for in acute care on the Telemetry floor. I did not think this would be possible and certainly not this fast. IT IS POSSIBLE YOU GUYS! I believe my portfolio and interview prep were key in landing me this job…can’t wait to start!

SUCCESS STORY! (new grad program/NCLEX ATT struggles)

I’ve been waiting to write this post for a few months now, because I wanted to be able to come full circle with it. I started applying to new grad programs about 6 months ago, and I, like I’m sure many others do as well, had a dream unit (NICU) and specific hospital in mind. I reworked my resume numerous times, but after I found out I was selected for an interview, I wondered what other resources were out there that could help me stand out among my peers.

I found this group, and two of the things that stood out to me the most were portfolios and pantsuits, both of which I felt at first were a little over the top. I struggled remaining true to myself, while also utilizing these tips that were obviously helping others to be successful. I tailored a portfolio with pieces of information that I felt would offer good talking points for the interview and highlighted my strengths, and decided on a black skirt/blazer combination and a flowered shirt (felt more myself, and figured it was peds appropriate). I couldn’t believe it when I was offered a position.

My excitement soon turned to stress when I realized how outrageously long the CA BRN takes to grant applicants eligibility to take the NCLEX. With a start date for my new grad program quickly approaching, and the 12 weeks behind me that I had already spent waiting/studying, I searched this site for answers and advice. I ended up reaching out to multiple congressmen, as well as the DCA and Governor Brown’s office, and in combination with a drive up to Sacramento to pay a visit to the BRN in person, a miracle occurred and I received my ATT. I’m SO happy to say that I’ve passed the NCLEX and begin my new grad program in a few weeks!!

This site is a gold mine of resources for new grads, but most importantly, I think the community of nurses who are apart of it make it that much better!!

I walked into my interview confident and ready to claim my job. Walked out with an offer!! 😊

What helped me the most was preparing stories from past clinical experiences. I actually put a portfolio together which included my resume, cover letter, professional affiliations/ leadership/ awards, current certifications, research, projects and letters of recommendations!

I also read the “4 things you absolutely must convey in an interview” and utilized the “blank interview cliff notes”. It really allowed me to prepare for all of the questions I had.

I think they were most impressed with my portfolio. I also wrote a thank you note after the interview and sent it up to the unit.

I also put a list of questions together to ask the manager and staff!

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

This stuff works!
Use what resonates with you and be confident.

Motivation!

Hi all! Just wanted to say a huge thank you for this group! The resources here and the people in this group are just incredible!!!

♥️♥️This group has helped me put together my first nursing resume, my cover letters, and my overall portfolio. Thanks to the resources available on RN Interview Tools, I was able to gain confidence to let my personality shine in my interviews! I am proud to say that I was recently offered two separate job offers, which I have accepted a job at Kaiser as my first RN job.

What a blessing it is to have so much support in this group, and I was blessed to meet some of the most amazing fellow nurses!!

So grateful for all of you!! 😃😃

Hi Melissa. I wanted to reach out and thank you for RNInterview Tools. I honestly didn’t think I was going to be able to find a hospital position with an ADN in the Dallas area, but I was offered a Critical Care and Med Surg positions!! Thank you so much for helping out us new graduates. It truly means the world to me. 🌎

“With the information I learned on RN interview tools i was able to get a new grad ICU position at a level 2 trauma center in competitive Southern California with “just” an ADN.

As an experienced nurse, I was able to use the same information to get accepted to a new specialty training program at a prestigious hospital competing against internal candidates. In the interview they mentioned how impressed they were by my portfolio.

I sing the praises of this page to everyone!!”

After being a pretty silent follower on here, I’d like to share my experience.

First off, thank you to the moderators and all those who contribute for such a helpful resource for new grads. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

**WARNING: SUPER LONG EXTREMELY DETAILED POST**

I am in no way, shape or form, trying to boast or brag, because I know how tough the job search is, especially in the Bay Area as new grads, but always found it comforting and motivating to read other people’s stories of their struggles, their experience, their success and their journey. So here is mine 🙂

I graduated from SMU’s ABSN program in 2017 and was licensed shortly thereafter. This was my second degree, because I couldn’t get into SJSU’s nursing program after they changed their policies on re-taking any pre-nursing prerequisites.

My journey to become a nurse felt like FOREVER, in reality, it took 8 years total. Fast forward to June 2017, we were alerted by our school and a former classmate that a local hospital was *possibly* going to have a new cohort for their new grad residency program since the new hospital is opening up at the end of September.

I applied about 3 days after the application opened, only because I spent a lot of time thinking about and researching what I wanted to include in the short essay questions and getting together my documents. I included my resume, cover letter, 3 letters of recommendations, and all the necessary documents they required.

The application did NOT have a personality component like I have heard that it has had in the past.

After almost 2 months, I wondered whether the hospital decided on moving forward with the new grad residency program, so I emailed them following up on whether they were, and shortly after they confirmed that they were going to have a fall cohort this year, and applicants who they were interested in would receive an email in the next week or so.

So I waited, and didn’t get an email until July 2017 (the day I took my NCLEX) that the hospital was “highly interested” and I would receive a call within the next week.

About a week later, I did, and was offered to come in for an interview in their L&D unit for the new grad residency program – my dream unit!

After following this page since nursing school, I already had some sort of idea what kind of game I had to bring to the interview. I knew I had to PREP PREP PREP, ‘wear the suit’, make it a conversation, and bring my resumes and portfolios.

I made it a point to ask the manager who scheduled the interview with me WHO I would be interviewing with. She gave me the names of the managers and their positions — I took this information, typed up their names and positions and used this as the cover sheet to the portfolio I handed them. In the portfolio I had my cover letter, resume, letters of recommendations, copy of my RN license, certifications (BLS, PALS, ACLS, NIHSS, S.M.A.R.T. training, EBP poster on skin-to-skin, and unofficial transcript.

I’ve heard that this hospital would rather not receive portfolios for interviews, and they’ve been explicit about this in their emails, but my email had nothing about not bringing portfolios, so I prepped 4 (1 for each manager, and an extra 1 just in case), with about 15 copies of my resume on resume paper in color – the managers were glad I brought my portfolio and actually went through it in front of me before starting the interview, because apparently they don’t receive all supplemental info that is included in your application – go figure!

I felt the interview went well. Since it was my first nursing interview, I prepped for both general interview questions (tell me about yourself, why this hospital, why L&D) and behavioral interview questions (I found the 31 behavioral question list within this page and in the comments were very helpful). I even had labor & delivery scenarios that they could possibly be asked and brushed up on common meds just in case, too. I made sure to review hospital as a whole as well – their missions and values, and reasons why I was interested. I made it a conversation, and I even made jokes without knowing I made jokes – because of this, I felt that my personality was able to shine, I didn’t feel like a robot just spewing out answers of what I’d think they’d like to hear. I had a list of about 10 questions prepped for when they asked, “do you have any questions for us?” and they were really impressed by the questions I asked – I did a quick google search for these questions and on this page as well. I prepped about 3 days prior to the interview. I prepped with mentors and friends, who had been through the interview process before and they helped me keep my answers more than 1 minute but less than 2 minutes and made sure that my answers were in STAR format – situation, task, action, result — THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!

Lastly, the outfit you wear to the interview is SOOOOO important. I knew I wanted to feel really confident going in, so I went out and shopped for an outfit. I wore a lined black/white skirt that hit below my knees, with a white top tucked in, and a navy blue blazer with 2 inch black heels with a professional bag to hold my portfolios — the managers even complimented my outfit!

I planned to write out thank you notes and hand deliver them the next day, but before I had the chance, the manager of the unit (who couldn’t be there during the interview) and another asst. manager called to offer me the position, “before I went anywhere else” — UNREAL and was so completely floored and humbled. Needless to say, I accepted the position in the L&D unit at this awesome Northern CA hospital within their new grad residency program and am scheduled to start before the end of Sept 2017.

With hard work, perseverance, prepping like a mad-woman, and just enough self-confidence, I was able to land the job of my dreams. Funny thing is, I was born at here when the current hospital opened, and now I’m about to start when the new hospital is opening. Things really came full circle.

For those struggling for the (new grad) job hunt, please don’t be so hard on yourself, don’t lose hope, do your research when putting together your application, and before the interview, put in the work, BE CONFIDENT in yourself and your skills, and good things will come your way. Just because it’s taking a little longer doesn’t mean it won’t happen – it will, just in your own time ❤

Disclaimer:
Please keep in mind that, between March 2017 – July 2017 I was applying to jobs here and there, since I had just graduated at the end of May I felt I wasn’t that strong of an applicant since I wasn’t licensed yet and decided to focus on studying for the NCLEX and put the job hunt on hold while doing so. I applied to several other hospital positions thinking I’d have a fighting chance since I completed my preceptorship with them, only to receive around 7 rejection letters shortly after, I applied to another  new grad program, never to even receive a rejection letter, but knew they were hosting interviews, so I figured I didn’t make the cut, even after completing my ped’s rotation there. I even tried applying for patient care assistant positions at other big name hospitals. I didn’t do any of my rotations at the hospital I was hired at, but did do my preceptorship in L&D within a local hospital.

*I also volunteered between 2012-2015 on and off, had healthcare experience as a caregiver in 2013 and currently.

Thank you so much for adding me to the group. The insight has helped me better prepare my resume and cover letter. I hope it eventually leads to a job! I appreciate that you guys volunteer your time to help us baby RNs 🤗

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share some great news! I have accepted a full time RN position in San Francisco. And I just wanted to thank everyone in this group! I have definitely tagged along on some posts to get some guidance and bump my spirit up when I was on the verge of giving up.

Very thankful for this group!❤️

Hi Melissa, Just wanted to let you know I got a job at SF Bay Area Northern CA hospital (progressive care – nights) with the resume you shared with me! I am super happy :) I never thought I would get a job in progressive care coming from med surg. Thanks :)

Hello future, new, and experienced nurses,
I just wanted to thank this group for all the help, advice, and encouragement. I graduated from nursing school in May 2019 and for the last 7 months have been applying constantly. The rejection was mortifying and there were several emotional breakdowns.

After 400 applications, 4 interviews, and 2 job offers, I am officially in a hospital I love. I have seen many posts about success and persistence and let me tell you… DONT GIVE UP, DONT SETTLE, and eventually you will end up where you want.

It just may take a little longer than you anticipated. Just be open, be yourself, and always reach out for help when needed. This group means so much to me and I will be forever grateful.

I just wanted to share a success story and thank this group for the info, advice, and support here.

I have always been interested in ICU even before nursing school and loved my clinical rotations there. But, after receiving multiple rejections I took an OR position for my first job. I needed a paycheck and have a family to support. I tried to have an open mind about the OR and always did my best when I came to work.

However, the longer I was there the more I knew I wanted ICU. I started applying to outside jobs, even med surg because it would give me bedside experience. I started to feel trapped and that I was not developing the bedside skills I wanted.

But, I was inspired by this group, kept on searching, and eventually I got a position in the ICU in a training program 🙏🏻. After 10 months in the OR I will be starting in the ICU in two weeks!

Thank you all for your inspiration. To the others out there searching for that right job: keep looking, take care of yourself first, and don’t settle. Good luck to you all!

Wow thanks for the advice! I have just sort of hit my breaking point. Wasn’t sure where else to go for advice and this page had helped me a lot over the last year. Really appreciate you taking the time to reply and give insight!

Thank you for your reply on my anonymous post. I feel more at ease with letting the situation settle in. I really appreciate this forum and would not be where I am today without. So thank you to you and those who run it! ❤
